Digestive System: Alimentary Canal: Esophagus
The Esophagus begin the alimentary canal. It contains an inner layer of stratified squamous epithelium, unkeratinized followed by areolar conective tissue in a nondescript lamina propria. The submucosa contains mucous secreting esophageal and cardiac glands mainly located at the upper 1/3 and lower 1/3 respectively. the double layered muscularis extena is described below.
