The Jejunum has long villi and lacks duodenal glands. While Peyer's patches may be found here, they are not abundant.

Typically, the mucosa of the jejunum contains more goblet cells than the duodenum. They are part of the simple columnar epithelium that lines the interior of the lumen.
Unlike the duodenum, the jejunum has a serosa has an outer layer, which is part of the visceral peritoneum. As with the rest of the intestinal tract, the muscularis externa contains an inner circular layer and outer longitudinal layer.
