Cardiac Muscle has faint striations which makes it resemble skeletal muscle, except the striations are quite weak. Strongly stained "striations" are the intercalated disks made of desmosomes and gap junctions between cardiac cells. It is here where ion exchange occurs. the cells themselves are rectangular in longitudinal section with one, or rarely two, nuclei. They may also branch from each other. This image is 100x.
