Intramembranous Bone Development
During intramembranous bone development, cancellous bone forms first. Note the trabeculae and lack of compact bone in the periosteal and endosteal regions. These regions will eventually enclose compact. bone. Osteoblast cells arise from osteoprogenitor cells (not shown). Osteoblasts differentiate into osteocytes as the bony matrix is formed.
